Partial Cutting Tutorial v.2

I was sitting at my work desk thinking how I can take partial cutting one step further.  This card uses the partial cutting method shown below.

Happy Birthday - Partial Cut v.2

I think this card is going to need more than just one picture to show you how it’s done.

Step #1: Draw two lines that will be narrower than the dies.  Place the dies in the middle in which the two lines will run through the dies.

Step #2: Use tape or post-its to secure the letters to the paper.  You don’t want the letters moving around when you run it through the Big Shot/Cuttlebug!

Step #3: Stick it in your die cutting machine!  My bottom board is the cutting board, so I leave the part where I don’t want to cut hanging off the cutting board.  This is where the lines that you drew in step #1 is helpful.  You can line up the top line with the edge of the cutting board.

Step #4: Now for the top board, it should cover just the part you want to cut.  Line up the top board with the second line you drew from step #1.

Step #5: Run it through the machine!  This is what you get.  A tip would be to NOT line up the boards exactly with the lines on the paper.  Always leave some room in case the boards shift.  Now you can take your cutting knife and cut out all the negative spaces.

Step #6: For tutorial purposes, I made this on some scrap printer paper so it looks a little flimsy.  But after all the cutting, you will be left with this.  I think these make nice little name cards for wedding and other special events!

Used: Papertrey Ink (Pure Poppy, Summer Sunrise, Simply Chartreuse, Ripe Avocado, Hawaiian Shores, Aqua Mist, Enchanted Evening, Plum Pudding, Scarlet Jewel, White cardstock, True Black ink, Movers & Shakers stamp set, Upper case Alphabet dies)

Moxie Fab: Tuesday Trigger

I finally finished my card for Moxie Fab’s Tuesday Trigger based on a pretty inspiration picture! I used up some cardstock scraps for the leaves, because Moxie Fab’s Paper Scrap Challenge says that you can also make nice cards and use up the scraps at the same time. Win-win situation!

This wreath took the whole night (approximately 2 hours) to arrange – it really didn’t need to take this long!

Thank You Wreath

Close up of the wreath!  These were actually punched out hearts from scrap cardstock, cut in half and adhered to the rustic white card.

Thank You Wreath - Close Up

It didn’t quite turn out to be what I wanted as you can see from the sketch that I made.  I even missed a color *OTL

Used: Papertrey Ink (Simply Chartreuse cardstock, Dark Chocolate cardstock, Summer Sunrise cardstock, Dark Chocolate Ink, Smokey Shadow ink, Inside & Out: Thank You stamp set) | Stampin’ Up (Hung Up on the Holidays stamp set, Dimensionals) | Others (rustic white cardstock, heart punch)

Baby Pink

This card didn’t exactly come out the way I expected it to be.  I was thinking of a masculine birthday card but it turned into a cute baby girl congratulations card >_>  I have my reasons for the huge change though!  Over the weekend, I learned that a friend of mine is expecting her second baby so I need to start making a few more baby cards.  It’s still too early to tell whether it’s a boy or girl so I thought, why not be prepared and make both?

Here is the sketch that I did at work (again!)

Used: Papertrey Ink (Upper case Alphabet dies, Sweet Blush cardstock, Kraft cardstock, White cardstock) | Stampin’ Up (Dimensionals) | Echo Park (Life is Good pattern paper) | The Girls Paperie (Paper Girl – Shabby Flower pattern paper) | Others (rinestones – pink, Muji – light pink gel pen)

Papertrey March Blog Hop Challenge

Yes I finished the card just in time for Papertrey Ink’s March Blog Hop Challenge, CAS-ual Friday Challenge AND Moxie Fab’s Paper Scrap Challenge. Talk about productive!  For this month’s inspiration photo from PTI, I wanted to do something bright and cheerful with the given colors of aqua & yellow.

I remember the stripes and the dots from the inspiration image and so I briefly sketched out the card for the challenge.  I’m glad the card turned out the way I wanted it to be!

Yup, what I envisioned the card to be!

Happy Birthday - stars

I basically used 2 long stripes of colored cardstock found from my scrap box.  Since the cards I make are 1/2 inch smaller than normal cards, I end up with long strips of cardstock.  I adhered the paper in alternating color on some scrap printer paper and trimmed the extra pieces for my “confetti” which was made with some eyelet punches.

Happy Birthday - stars

Used: Papertrey Ink (Upper case Alphabet dies, Smokey Shadow cardstock, Aqua Mist cardstock, Summer Sunrise cardstock, Smokey Shadow ink, Birthday Basics stamp set) |  Stampin’ Up (Cool Caribbean ink, Summer Sun ink, Dimensionals) | Market Street Stamps (Blast Off! stamp set) | Copic (Y06) | Others (rinestones – white & blue)

Make It Monday #58 & CFC 44

I have two cards to share today!  The first one uses Nichole’s graduated background technique which I’m really glad I have the right copics that blend easily with each other *phew!*  This was based on a rough sketch that I did at work, except it turned out a little different than what I had in mind, but the good different :) How’s this for CFC44 at CAS-ual Friday Challenge?  Pattern? √  Image? √  Sentiment?  √

The second card was based on a sketch that I did at work as well.  I had a coffee sleeve from Starbucks which I really liked the “decaf”, “syrup”, “shots” tick box so I mimicked that part and wrote in “awesome”, “brilliant” and “fantastic”.  Then once the zipper is peeled away, it reveals a little sentiment.

MIM #58 card – Used: Papertrey Ink (White cardstock, Shakers & Movers: sentiments) | Lawn Fawn (Partly Cloudy stamp set) | Stampin’ Up Brilliant Blue, Cool Carribean ink) | Stampin’ Up (Dimensionals) | Copics (B00, B02, BG10) | Others (clear embossing powder, blue rinestones)

Coffee card – Used: Papertrey Ink (Dark chocolate, kraft cardstock, Rosie Posie stamp set,  Shakers & Movers: sentiments, Heart 2 Heart #1 stamp & die, Dark Chocolate ink) |  Stampin’ Up (Dimensionals) | Others (Versamark champagne, clear embossing powder, Gelly roll white pen, Starbucks coffee sleeve)
